How to Apply for Thailand Work Permit
All foreign nationals working in Thailand must always have a work permit. A Thai work permit is a blue booklet that allows a foreign ressortissant to work in Thailand. Renseignement related to his/her employment such as company, leasing, succursale leasing and related validity period is mentioned in it. Thailand’s Department of Labor is the government agency responsible for issuing such permits.
If the foreign ressortissant is currently outside of Thailand, the empressement process for a Thai work permit can be divided into two stages.
First Séjour: Non-immigrant Thailand Quittance Category “B”
Foreign nationals, as a prerequisite for applying for a Thai work permit, are required to hold a non-immigrant approbation category “B” or a Thailand débit approbation. This can be for either a single entry with a validity of three months or nombreux entries with a validity of one year which is issued by the Régalien Thai Embassy or Régalien Thai Consulate.
Following are the commentaires required for Thailand approbation empressement:
- Passport or travel manuscrit with at least twelve months validity
- Thai approbation empressement form
- Recent passport size photograph
- Proof of sufficient financing of 20,000.00 THB per individual and 40,000.00 THB per family
- Letter of approval from the Ministry of Labor (this is called WP2)
- Thai company registration commentaires of the employing company in Thailand (such as Thai débit registration, certificates and all financial commentaires)
- Copy of previous Thai work permit and alien income tax return (if congruent)

After approval of the empressement for Non-Immigré Thailand Quittance “B”, the next step is to request a Thai Work Permit from the Arrière-cuisine of Foreign Workers Tendance under Thailand’s Ministry of Employment.
But first, it must be proven that he meets the qualifications provided by Thai law. He must be a legal resident of Thailand or have temporary licence to stay and be physically and mentally healthy. Persons suffering from tuberculosis, vérole, leprosy, elephantiasis, drug addiction and alcoholism are strictly prohibited from having work permits in Thailand.
This permit can only be issued if the applicant is engaged in an activité that matches his education and skills. Additionally, there are 39 reserved occupations for Thais. These occupations are provided for in Régalien Decree BE 2522 and contravention of which can result in up to five years in chiourme and/or a petite of 2,000 to 10,000 THB.
The empressement for a Thai work permit must be accompanied by the following requirements:
- A recent portrait taken within the last six months (preferably in a suit and tie)
- A Thai tasser(se)’s certificate duly signed stating the requirement of a foreign employment
- Applicant’s education certificate and work experience prouesse
- Medical certificate issued within the last six months reflecting that he is free from any prohibited disease
- Passport and Fixe Residence Certificate and Alien Certificate
- Fermage map of company or enterprise
In most cases if the empressement is approved, it will be issued with a culminant validity of one year. The validity period may be shorter if the requested period does not exceed one year. The Thai government has introduced a new two-year work permit. It is available to visible Thai companies that meet the financial requirements for company income.
