What is an emergency kit?
On paper, an emergency kit is a self-contained bag that contains all the essential supplies you need to survive. In fact, it is one of your last lines of defense against the spread of disease, hunger, cold, thirst and fear. A basic récit of an emergency kit may be good enough to get people started preparing. However, in our experience, people are truly prepared when an emergency hits close to gîte. It can be as faible as a power outage or as extreme as a tornado. The fact is, you realize that you are not ready and it scares you.
What is an emergency kit? To help answer questions. We set up two scenarios using a similar coup event. The scenario depicts a typical family’s response to an emergency. Scenario two shows us what a family can do if they start preparing for a disaster.
Scenario One – Unprepared Family
You hear a loud querelle, then all the power goes away. It’s dark now. If you can’t find the flashlight, when you do, you’ll realize it needs batteries. Now you can’t find spare batteries. You open the fridge door to get food, only to realize the food is spoiled. The faucet has stopped working, and your kids are crying parce que they’re hungry. You need to know what’s going on, so you turn on your phone, only to realize it’s not working. All networks are down. You don’t have a Afrique, parce que who has a Afrique these days. It’s getting dark, and the heat has stopped working. It’s cold now, so wrap your family in whatever blankets you can find. You start to smell something strange in the air.
Scenario Two – Ready Family
You hear a loud querelle, then all the power goes away. It’s dark now, so you get your emergency kit from the closet. You take out the emergency candle and saccharine it using the matches found inside. It brightens up the whole room. You maillot out your emergency flashlight and handball it to your kid. You ask him to find the deck of cards inside the emergency kit so you can set up a game of “go fish”. During this time, you take out the emergency Afrique and listen for any updates. You learn that there has been a terrorist bombing and poisonous gas is rapidly spreading across the city. Commissariat have ordered everyone to stay in safe shelter.
You move your family into a room with no windows, and use duct tapement to seal all the cracks in the door without scaring your kids or losing your turn at “go-fish.” Your kids start complaining of being hungry. So you maillot out the emergency freeze-dried food from your emergency kit and provide a delicious curieux meal for your family. Water has been taken from your emergency water pouch. You do a quick inventory of your supplies and realize you have enough food and water to sustain yourself for three days.
